ILA Forest Education Van
If we can’t bring you to the forest, we can bring the forest to you in the ILA Forest Education Van. One of the Interior’s most exciting initiatives in forestry education, our ‘forest on wheels’ has been retrofitted with educational tools and embellished with painted murals that tell stories of the past, present and future of BC’s forests. Designed for teachers and students by former teachers, with assistance from the Canadian Women in Timber, this moving monument to trees is an exciting educational tool to help teach kids about the importance of our forests. With hands-on learning, students benefit from a variety of teaching aids including tree samples, pictures, a bug display box, a wildlife tree, wood product samples and forest murals depicting our use of the forest and our important interaction with nature. Plus, trained educators and industry representatives can deliver three 15-minute presentations covering:
- The story of forestry in BC, past and present
- Forest health including fire, defoliators, bark beetles, and natural disturbances
- Users of the forest and the important management of this sustainable, renewable resource
Our Forest Education Van can visit you at your school free of charge within the southern Interior region. Donations or honorariums to assist in funding the ILA Forest Education Van are encouraged but are not required. The Van can also be seen on display at forestry events around the province.
